Living in the beautiful countryside in Moray Scotland. Surrounded by hills and the highest being Ben Rinnes which is practically in my back garden I have definitely found my happy place.
But it is more than that.
The drama of the Scottish landscape feels romantic with its misty mountains and stirs up feelings of nostalgia and melancoly.
These emotions result in fuzzy out of focus areas within my art.
Mixed with my childhood memories that are slightly faded but strong in their sense of happiness and joy are prevalent become the stronger bolder brushstrokes. .
A slight wonky cross that keeps coming intuitively through in my work is a wink to the barb wire fences that I used to easily jump over whilst playing at my grandparents farm.
Or the bright playful colours remind me of my Nanas wonderful garden full in bloom which I helped tend to in the summer holidays.
I work intuitively and create my art that feels joyful and uplifting to me. My choices of colour are extremely important to my process, it has to be colours that uplift my energy. Picking my palette produces what emotions I want to convey to the collector. You will almost always find the playful colour pink and energetic yellows through my collections. These are two of my favourite colours and remind me of my childhood.
I have no plan or sketch before I paint. I let my intuition lead the way. It feels like a dance on the canvas. I work quickly with big brushstrokes and it really does feel like the paint brushes are dancing over the canvas. My process gives my art energy and movement that shines through layers and layers of applied acrylics.
I do what feels right and sometimes you can find hidden faces and shapes that are familiar.
My subconscious takes me on a journey which stirs up childhood memories and melancholy.
But most of all I hope my art takes you back in time to your happy place where timeliness, joyfulness and sprinkling of positivity can find a place in your home.
